83rd ANNUAL FALL SHOW
Exhibiting at SAMA, UPJ campus, the Pasquerilla Center for the Performing Arts
August 28 - December 23, 2015
Juror for this exhibit was VICKY CLARK, an independent curator and writer on art. With a PhD in late medival art from the University of Michigan, she became a specialist in contemporary art.
Juror's statement - ' My drive to Johnstown to jury this show brought me out of Pittsburgh and through the strip malls in Murrysville on a sunny day. The shift from urban to rural was a welcome relief, and I enjoyed the blue skies, the fields, and especially the dappled sunlight from the many full trees. The way down into the valley was a breath of fresh air that made me think about the beauty of nature. It also prepared me for the work in the gallery; it made sense that much of it revolved around the landscape and nature. Colorful landscapes, the startling blue of a seascape, shaded paths, flowers in bloom. All recaptured that sense of being in nature. Inspiration allowed for color in various guises, from the realistic to the arbitrary in representational and abstract work. There was a freshness in the scenes and in the work. The different approaches to nature created complex conversations where connections could be made between works and artists, creating the possibility of a wonderful show. As I left the gallery to climb back up the hill to the highway, the memory of nature captured by the artists remained as I once again experienced a drive through leafy environs on the warm and sunny day. Back and forth, art and nature enriched my day.'
Apologies in advance to the artists whose works under glass have the glares detracting from the artwork. Mouse-over thumbnail for artist information, click for larger view.
