Juror's Statement

"Originality in idea, masterful manipulation of the medium, expressive use of color and a vision or style were things that I looked for in choosing outstanding works that exhibited true ability. To name a few, Lisa Mull's glass beaded jewelry, 'Peacock's Embrace' necklace was masterfully designed and constructed. Alan Rauch's ' Valley Vista' exhibited a fresh abstract approach to landscape painting. An outstanding photograph by Bill Dembowski entitled 'Charcoal Wall' first caught my attention because I thought it was a charcoal drawing. Upon closer examination I realized that it was a photograph that imitated a charcoal drawing and it spoke to me of nature's survival which is threatened in today's world. And Joe Berezansky's 'Plane Ride' lures the viewer into a whimsical world with textured surfaces and vivid use of color. There were only two drawings in the exhibition, one by Georgia Akers which explored a spontaneous approach to pencil on brown paper entitled 'Self Potrait' and Kathleen Burk's thoughtfully analyzed work entitled 'Endless Spheres'. Drawings have amazing potential for exploration not to be overlooked for exhibition possibilities. Too numerous to mention each winning work, all are outstanding. I would like to thank the Allied Artists for the opportunity to juror this exhibition."                    Maura Koehler-Keeney
