Collage of a Commonwealth
Intisar Hamilton, United Way of PA, is in the process of putting on the first ever Fine Art and Photo Exhibit entitled Collage of a Commonwealth.
They have collected photos from local United Way across the state for artists from each community to create a new piece of art using the United Way’s original photo as inspiration. The exhibit will travel throughout the commonwealth from September 2010-August 2011, and will make stops at each community that has a piece in the show. We have already made arrangements with the United Way of the Laurel Highlands to pre-open the exhibit in Cambria County! Contact Intisar Hamilton, SECA Campaign Associate,

FALL SHOW JUROR Bio – Michael Allison:

Michael works in various capacities as a visual artist providing design and fabrication services to his clients for the past thirty years. He is a respected lecturer and instructor on a variety of artistic disciplines. Some of Michael’s most well known works are the murals he created for the Lincoln Highway Corridor project. He also has a number of murals in private residences throughout Pennsylvania and the northeastern United States. He has completed the restoration of statues and murals, has created sculptures for private homes and commercial companies, and his paintings, murals and sculptures are included in over one hundred collections.
Artist Statement - Michael Allison:
I started painting when I was a child and always had a fascination with making things. After high school I attended the Art Institute of Pittsburg where I received my first professional recognition as an artist. At the time the school faculty was evenly divided between commercial and fine arts staff, and I saw the value in both. Thus my career has always embraced both. As a commercial artist I have done illustration work and interior decorative painting (faux painting and Venetian plaster work). As a fine artist I work in most mediums and dabble in sculpture. My fine art output has varied over the years but my artistic mind set is distinctly contemporary.
Why I make art is a difficult question to answer. Suffice it to say it is directly linked to my experience and personality. Concepts arrive out of the blue, they bubble up from the subconscious mind. I always have been what you might call an “idea man” and I find that the ideas come most easily when not being forced. The only art that I dislike is that which doesn’t work within its own context and is poorly executed.
